Poole and Poole Harbour

Poole is the closest of the big coastal towns to Forest View Retreat, and its harbour is the gateway to Brownsea Island, Sandbanks and the boats across to Studland.

Poole Quay

The quay is the easy version of a day out: boats to watch, places to eat along the water, and the old town streets just behind it.

Brownsea Island

A National Trust island in Poole Harbour reached by boat from the quay or Sandbanks, known for its woodland, red squirrels and harbour views. Check sailing times before you set off.

Sandbanks and Canford Cliffs

Sandbanks and the chines at Branksome and Canford Cliffs give you calm, shallow water and clean sand — good for younger children.

The chain ferry

The Sandbanks chain ferry crosses the harbour mouth to Studland, which is the shortcut to the start of the Jurassic Coast and Old Harry Rocks.
