The property

Where is Forest View Retreat?

Forest View Retreat is at Forest View, Cannon Hill Road, Colehill, Wimborne, Dorset BH21 2LS, in Colehill on the edge of Wimborne in Dorset. It sits beside Cannon Hill Forest, roughly five minutes from Wimborne Minster and around 20–25 minutes from Poole, Bournemouth and Sandbanks.

How many people does Forest View Retreat sleep?

The house sleeps 8 guests. Maximum occupancy is 8 and is strictly enforced.

How many bedrooms are there?

There are four bedrooms: three double bedrooms and one bunk bedroom, with five beds in total.

What type of property is it?

It is a private, whole-house self-catering holiday home. Guests have the house, garden and pool to themselves, except for the garages and host's private work studio, which are not accessible to guests.

Are there stairs?

Yes, the bedrooms are upstairs, so the house involves stairs. If anyone in your group has mobility needs, please ask us before booking and we will describe the layout honestly so you can decide.

Is the property suitable for guests with mobility difficulties?

The house is a two-storey home with stairs to the bedrooms, so it is not step-free. Please contact us with your requirements and we will tell you exactly what the access is like rather than guess on your behalf.

How many bathrooms are there?

There are two bathrooms, plus a separate downstairs WC and a shower in the pool room.

How many beds are there?

There are five beds across four bedrooms: three double bedrooms and one bunk bedroom with two beds.

Is there somewhere to work?

Yes — there is a dedicated workspace in the house, along with Wi-Fi.

Pool and outdoors

Is the pool private?

Yes. The heated outdoor pool is in the property's own enclosed garden and is used only by the guests staying in the house.

Is the pool indoor or outdoor, and is it heated?

The outdoor pool is heated during the April-to-October pool season. As with all outdoor pools, its temperature can vary according to weather conditions. Pool use is at guests' own risk and children must be supervised at all times.

Is there a barbecue area?

Yes — there is a terrace with a barbecue and festoon lighting for evenings outside beside the pool.

When is the swimming pool available?

The heated outdoor pool is open from April to October and closes for the winter after 31 October. It is open-air, so the water temperature varies with the weather.

Is a winter hot tub available?

Hot-tub hire may be available from October to March at an additional cost and by prior arrangement. Please ask your host before booking.

Families and groups

Is the property suitable for families?

Yes. It is set up for families and groups, with a large kitchen, open-plan dining, a garden and a private pool. Children must be supervised around the pool at all times.

Is it suitable for two families travelling together?

Yes. With four bedrooms, five beds and space for eight guests, it works well for two families sharing.

Is it suitable for young children?

Families with young children are welcome, but the garden contains an outdoor pool, so constant adult supervision is essential. Please tell us the ages of your children when you enquire.

Is Forest View Retreat dog friendly?

Well-behaved dogs are welcome on request. Please mention your dog when you enquire so we can confirm before you book.

Location and distances

How far is Wimborne?

Wimborne Minster town centre is roughly a five-minute drive, with its market, independent shops, pubs and the Minster church.

How far is Bournemouth?

Bournemouth town centre and its beaches are approximately a 25-minute drive.

How far is Poole?

Poole and Poole Quay are approximately a 20-minute drive.

How far is Sandbanks?

Sandbanks and Branksome Chine are approximately a 25-minute drive.

How far is the New Forest?

The western edge of the New Forest, towards Ringwood, is approximately a 20-minute drive.

What beaches are nearby?

Branksome Chine, Canford Cliffs, Sandbanks, Bournemouth and Studland are all within easy driving distance — most between 25 and 45 minutes.

How do guests reach the Jurassic Coast?

The Jurassic Coast starts at Studland and Old Harry Rocks, roughly 45 minutes away by road, or via the Sandbanks chain ferry across Poole Harbour.

Is Forest View convenient for Parley Manor weddings?

Yes. Parley Manor is a short drive from the house, so Forest View works well as accommodation for a wedding party of up to eight guests attending an event there.

Nearby essentials

What supermarkets are nearby?

There are supermarkets and convenience shops in Wimborne and Ferndown, both a short drive from the house, so a big shop on arrival is straightforward.

What restaurants and pubs are nearby?

Wimborne Minster has a good spread of pubs, cafés and independent restaurants within about five minutes' drive, with more choice in Poole and Bournemouth.

What is there to do on a rainy day?

The Jurassic Coast and Dorset towns have plenty of indoor options — Wimborne's museums and shops, Poole Museum and the quayside, Bournemouth's town centre, and larger family attractions within driving distance. Back at the house there is a large lounge and dining space to spread out in.

Is Forest View Retreat a good base for golf?

Yes. Knighton Heath, Broadstone, Bulbury Woods and Parkstone golf clubs are all roughly within a 15-minute drive, and there is parking for up to six cars.

Booking and stays

What does it cost to stay?

How do I book?

Is there parking?

Yes — free private parking on site for up to six cars.

Is Wi-Fi available?

Yes, Wi-Fi is included.

What are the house rules?

No parties or events, no smoking indoors, pool use at guests' own risk, and maximum occupancy of eight is strictly enforced.

What are check-in and check-out times?

Check-in is from 3:00pm and check-out is by 11:00am. If you need to arrive earlier or leave later, just ask and we will do our best to accommodate you.

When is the best time of year to visit Dorset?

Summer suits pool and beach days, spring and autumn are quieter and excellent for forest walks, Wimborne and coastal strolls, and winter brings Bournemouth's Christmas Market from 12 November plus cosy evenings by the fire pit. The heated pool is open from April to October and closes for the winter after 31 October.
